Half-day-plus is the sweet spot: arrive late morning, sushi lunch, Sakaimachi workshops, canal at dusk, back in Sapporo for dinner. Overnights suit only the Snow Light Path week, when evening is the entire point and hotels fill accordingly.
Is the canal worth it outside winter?
Yes - the gas lamps come on year-round at dusk and the stone warehouses read as period drama in any season. The mistake is visiting at midday and leaving before the lamps.
What sells here for families versus couples?
