Two distinct products. Winter (December-March): powder, festivals, seafood at its peak - and the early-February Snow Festival, when the city sells out a year ahead. Summer (June-August): mild 22-25 degrees while Honshu swelters, with Furano's lavender peaking mid-July.

Two seasons, two different products
Winter Sapporo is snow-lantern streets, steaming miso ramen alleys and the February festival’s building-sized ice sculptures. Summer Sapporo is a mild green base for Furano lavender, Biei’s hills and beer gardens in Odori Park. Quote them as different destinations that happen to share hotels - because clients researching one will be misled by photos of the other.
The pairings
Otaru’s canal and glassworks make the classic half-day out. Ski clients split between Niseko (about 2.5 hours, international polish) and Furano (2 hours, quieter and more Japanese). And the seafood morning - uni-and-crab bowls at the market before nine - is the cheapest guaranteed highlight in the north.

How far ahead must Snow Festival itineraries be booked?
Ten to twelve months for hotels at sane rates - the city effectively sells out for early February. We hold allocations before dates are announced based on the consistent pattern, which is the only reliable way to quote it.
Is Sapporo a ski base or a city stop?
Both, deliberately. Non-skiing days in a ski itinerary work brilliantly here - food, the Sapporo Beer Museum, Otaru's canal town 40 minutes away - and skiers based in Niseko often route a Sapporo bookend on arrival or departure through New Chitose.
What does summer Hokkaido offer that Honshu doesn't?
Escape. While Tokyo and Kyoto sit in humid mid-30s, Hokkaido runs dry low-20s - which sells itself to Gulf and Southeast Asian clients especially. Furano's lavender fields and Biei's patchwork hills, 2 to 2.5 hours from Sapporo, anchor the summer day trips.
